Changes at Adventure Insider

New bridges to crossAbout 5 years ago a few of us brainstormed during a backpacking trip to discuss an online adventure blog & magazine, which is how Adventure Insider was born. Today we're announcing a few changes to AI, some of which are pretty signifcant. Erick Pound, the driving force and founder of this little project is stepping down from day-to-day operation of the website and magazine, mainly due to a deployment with the military that will have him out of the country for the next few months.

Erick & I have known each other since the late 90's, when we served together on the local Civil Air Patrol Search & Rescue teams. Our mutual obsession with everything outdoors has kept us friends for over 15 years, and led to the founding of AI in 2007. While I've gone more in the 'powered' adventure direction, Erick has thrived on human motive power for the most part, which shows through in every article on this site and in the magazine. In 2008 I founded FJC Magazine, which is an online magazine similar to AI Mag but dedicated to Toyota FJ Cruisers. Then in 2011 my company (Zaxyn Media, LLC) created Tacoma Magazine to serve the Toyota Truck market. During this time Erick & I have continued to work on building AI to the level we both believe it can reach, which brings us to today.

I've agreed to take over operation of Adventure Insider Magazine (and this website) for the time being, so I thought this would be a good opportunity to change a few things in an effort to gain a wider audience. While most of the changes are not significant, the one major difference is that (for now) Adventure Insider Magazine will be published twice a year: A winter issue will be published this fall (mid-November) and will include content relevant to the winter season. Snow is what it's all about for many of us, so that's where we'll focus. We'll publish a Summer issue focused on all the amazing activities to be experienced primarily during the summer season. You'll see that issue in May or June, 2013.

The other major change you'll notice is that we're commited to bringing the latest news & information from the outdoor adventure world to you on a much more regular basis. This website will be updated daily to include our take on what's happening in the industry with gear, news, reviews, and other helpful information. This is a huge commitment from the entire Adventure Insider staff (more on that below), but we think we can really hit this out of the park. You will not see press releases for every piece of outdoor gear released, but you will get the most up to date information on how to experience your adventure like a true insider. We're certain you'll love the new format (which, obviously) includes an all new website design.

Erick will remain on staff as the Founder and a regular contributor as his time permits. Additionally, Jordan, Jonah, and myself will take on the lions share of daily activity on the site and will work with our great contributors to produce the magazine. Of course we're always interested in new partners, colleagues, and contributors, so if you're interested in being part of the team, check out the "Want to Write" page. We have needs for each issue as well as the website that I'm sure many of you can help fulfill.

Of course if you have comments, suggestions, gripes, or any other info you'd like to pass along, you can contact me directly at shane <at> adventureinsider.com. I work hard to answer e-mail quickly, so don't be afraid to get in touch. We hope to see everyone out & about as we continue our quest for amazing adventures!
